Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he liked gambling on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really competitive in these card games while competing against his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he played many hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus attention even more on poker.
The actual advancement in his game happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would regularly wager against one another. He was able to access some of the best minds in chess. With their help, he would tweak his strategic thinking abilities. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
